We provide scar camouflage services for skin grafts and surgical scars, as well as depigmentation from burns, birthmarks or conditions such as vitiligo (in remission only). Do bear in mind that not all scars are suitable for treatment and must be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Scars must be mature, relatively flat and smooth, stable in colour and fully healed, with no redness or pink colouration. As a general rule of thumb, stretch marks and keloid scars are unsuitable for micropigmentation. Scars that are hyperpigmented (i.e. darker than the surrounding normal skin) also cannot be lightened with medical tattooing.
As with all medical tattooing procedures, a minimum of 2 procedures are required to allow for adequate pigmentation deposition. Some scars may handle pigment unpredictably and on occasion, may reject colour altogether.
It is imperative to understand that although micropigmentation can improve the overall appearance of the skin, scars cannot be removed or completely hidden. The surrounding skin constantly changes in response to sun exposure, age and temperature, which in turn can change its appearance relative to the tattooed area.
Scars must be at least 1 year old to be safely treated due to the length of time it takes for scars to fully mature.
If you are having any micropigmentation procedures performed on the face, it is recommended that your injectables are performed at least 6 weeks prior to the tattooing to ensure that the effect of the anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers do not change the final result.
